BEVERLEY
3:20 SIEMENS IN PROCESS HANDICAP (CLASS 3) (4yo+,0-90) 1m
YES ONE 9-4 ~ Transferred his good all weather form to the turf when running a couple of fine races at Thirsk. In two races over 7f he first finished 2nd behind Spinning and then recorded his 2nd career win on the turf when beating Goodbye. The former is a solid race for the grade and in the latter the front two pulled clear with the runner up unlucky when trying to follow up Warwick. The form of those two races can be considered fairly strong for the grade and both over a trip that could be considered the absolute minimum for the Kevin Ryan colt. He was well supported when winning last time out but he’ll need to improve again to win as the handicapper has put him up 7lbs for that victory. However he is lightly raced on the turf with only 7 runs and he has a progressive profile. This trip is also guaranteed to see him to better effect and he has to be respected.
CROCODILE BAY 9-2 ~ Improved for the change of yards at the end of last season and ended the year in real good nick. Somewhat of an exposed performer but on the best of his form he should be able to mount a serious challenge in this company. It was a disappointing reappearance but he is sure to come on for that effort. However he could be vulnerable to one of the less exposed runners in the line up.
FEVER 9-1 ~ Clearly capable on his day, as he showed when only going down by a neck behind Zaham in a heritage handicap at Epsom last season. He could also be considered an unlucky loser in that race as he looked all over the winner before hanging badly and throwing away the race. He has yet to reproduce that level of form in four subsequent races and has been dropping down the handicap. Trainer will be on when this one comes back to form so he is worth particular attention in the market. However he has looked regressive in three runs this term and so he can’t be backed with any confidence on the strength of the form book.
NEVADA DESERT 9-1 ~ Not too many horses are as exposed as this 8yo gelding but he was better than ever last season. A reproduction of his winning form over course and distance last year would put him in with a chance off a 6lbs lower mark. He goes well here at Beverley and not without a chance but he may have to give way to one of his younger rivals.
PRINCESS COCOA 8-13 ~ Makes his reappearance on turf this season after racing on the all weather so far this year. However Richard Faheys mare has looked held by the handicapper and was a comfortably beaten favourite in a claimer the run before last. More needed today and she is 11lbs higher than her highest career winning mark so probably wise to look elsewhere.
CONCLUSION
5 runners in this race but 4 horses who like to race prominently so there is likely to be a fair gallop. That will suit Kevin Ryans Yes One who looks progressive and against this modest bunch he should be able to defy his 7lbs hike in the weights. On the best of his form Nevada Desert should prove a good yardstick for the favourite.
